Arrival and playtime – 11.30 a.m. – 12.40 p.m. | The children arrive. From the classes and kindergartens of the Rudolf Steiner School Basel. From the public kindergartens and the Bruderholz school. The time until lunch is reserved is for arrival and play.
Supervised lunch – 12:20 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. | The children eat on the premises of the Jakobshüttli. The meals are varied, organic and vegetarian. The food is freshly prepared every day by a qualified cook in our school kitchen. Lunch time is the moment for meeting each other and socialising. Cheerful exuberance alternates with pleasant calm. The children learn to pay attention to both their own and the needs of others. After lunch they all go to brush their teeth.
Playtime, storytime, supervised homework – 1:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | This is the most peaceful time in the Jakobshüttli. Story time for younger children, supervised homework for older pupils and quiet games for the rest.
1 x fresh air for everyone – 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.| We go outside no matter what the weather is like. Into the woods, to the playground, to the caverns nearby and gullies or to the school playground. The children climb, whittle or sit around a fire. They play catch, hide and seek, cops and robbers and football. And they experience the unfolding of nature’s seasons with all their senses.
Chores and playtime, including teatime – 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. | At teatime there are sandwiches and fruits to keep the children’s hunger at bay. When they have finished eating, the children are busy clearing the tables, vacuum cleaning, cleaning the wash basins or filling and emptying the dishwashers. Everyone is given a chore and helping each other out. The last hour is set aside for play again. We have table football, board games and plenty more. Then the children set off to go home.
