During year 8: work placement in retail – Selling products in a bakery. Participating in work at a laboratory. Or working in a fashion store: In year 8 the pupils complete a three to five day practical work placement. The school helps them find the placements and shows them how to apply. This introduces the pupils to a working environment and gives them their first taste of what it is like to be gainfully employed.
Beginning of year 9: forestry work experience – The program for year 9 kicks off with work experience in forestry. The whole class takes part in a forest project together for a week. Bushes are trimmed back, trees planted, paths laid and fences built. The young people are introduced to the daily work routine of a forestry worker and participate in an ecological project.
End of year 9: Agricultural work experience – At the end of year 9 the pupils apply for a three-week practical on a farm. Usually in Switzerland, but sometimes abroad as well. They live and work with the farming family and gain experience in this kind of work. During this time they are away from home for three weeks – often a real challenge.
